Yes here I am I have to comment on a route that ends up about 500 metres from my home! From my house I see the mountain Mjønestinden, you plan to pass it on the northern side. It has not yet been covered in snow, but it could happen any day now. About temperature you may have anything between -15C to +10C the time you plan to walk. Most probable is arond -5C I have walked 75% of the planned route, both summer and winter.

Please rembmber that you certainly will have slippery conditions. The first snow will melt and freeze several times, making the track partly extremely slippery. Take care, do not hurry or take any risks.

Myself we plan to take a tour in the Sulitjelma area this weekend. And also here it is promised to be a small cover of snow on the track. The best source for probability regarding climate is the senorge.no page. There you may see climate data back to 1960. From 15.10 we are allowed to put on spiked tires on our cars here, and this is for a reason. There has been years with up to 80cm snow here on the coast on that time, and sure there are more in the mountains. But it has also been years with no snow until after christmas.

Valnesfjord has a very local climate. I remember one year we had our camping-wagon there. Here at home I did not use the snowshowel at all, but in Valnesfjord I had to dig 50cm down to get to the ROOF of the campingwagon, then 2m more down to get the door open! This was in march, and it is not probable with such amounts before christmas. Just an example of how local climate may differ within very small areas.

Correction! As we woke up today it is white snow all over the ground, about 15cm of it so far. Predictions are a lot more so we will have to adjust our tour plans accordingly. Check the site yr.no for updated weather information.

Wenn der Laden hält was er verspricht scheint es echt eine gute Sache zu sein. Die Bewertungen sehen zumindest gut aus. Und wir sind ja zu zweit im Zelt.

Es liegt also Schnee und es wird vielleicht noch mehr schneien. Geht die Tour dennoch noch oder müssen wir uns was neues ausdenken? Und gibt es in Bodo irgendwelche günstigen Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten, Couchsurfing oder ähnliches? Ich werde mich mal informieren. Die Tickets sind bereits bestellt, es wäre also unschön die Sache abzusagen.

Von absagen redet ja auch niemand - nur die Planung entsprechend anpassen.

Bei Übernachtung in Bodø geht natürlich das Flair etwas verloren - außerdem habt ihr dort natürlich auch Streulicht. Weiß nicht, inwieweit das beim Polarlicht stört.
Ich denke, sowohl für die Atmosphäre als auch für die Beobachtung des Polarlichts wäre die Übernachtung aushalb einer Ortschaft bestimmt netter.

Regarding the snow and weather conditions, it is anyones guess what they might be. This sunday I was skiing for the first time this season, perfect conditions! But the forecast say it will be warmer soon, and usually the snow melts at least three times before it settles. At least that is what local saying proclaims. You just have to watch the yr.no and senorge.no sites to see the situation.

But one condition for good conditions to see aurora is that the moon is not bright, and it is actually dark on the 4.11, so you have perfect timing there. The other two conditionsis a clear sky, and also that the aurora is there at all. There is some internet page to see where aurora is forecasted, just look it up.

The track you linked to ended with a 200 meters turn heading direct north. The place is the local arcery clubs training field, but the road there has almost no public transport. Just a schoolbus twice each day. The best way to end the tour is to walk southwest 2km, then you are at the rv80 and the main road to Bodø. Daytime there is a bus every half hour or so, evenings one every hour. You see the dotted line if you enlarge the map, this is btw the skitrack we used on sunday.

Track conditions update! Two days ago I was travelling to Fauske, and looked closely as best I could on the snow conditions in the mountain side. It was not so bad, just a bit of snow, long parts quite snowfree. Since then we have had a few days with warmer weather and some rain. The snow amount in the mountains have sunk considerably, making it easier to walk.

The predictions for the coming week up to 1/11 is now available, just use yr.no and look up Valnesfjord,Kvalhornet and Heggmovatnet, then you have a good idea. It will be around +2c except for the highest parts where it may be -2c, and also it is not probable with more rain or snow.

In other words, its looking good!

Die Wetterscheide ist gerade im nördlichen Nordland/ südlichen Troms. Nördlich liegt ordentlich Schnee und es sind auch weiter Minustemperaturen zu erwarten. Südlich wird wohl alles wegtauen. Das soltle Euch, wie Otto schon sagte, ja passen :-)

Das klingt ja alles ganz super. Wir haben die Zeit um den 4. extra gewählt weil dort Neumond ist, zumindest das konnten wir ja richtig abpassen. Wenn jetzt auch noch das Wetter mitspielt und die Nordlichtaktivität wird es gut werden. Aber auch wenn nicht, schließlich gibt es immer noch die Landschaft und den Hauch eines Abenteuers.

Nur so am Rande: Gebt nicht zu viel auf die Polarlicht-Vorhersagen, sondern nutzt einfach jede Gelegenheit die sich bietet (sprich: dunkel genug und wenigstens halbwegs klarer Himmel). Anfang dieser Woche waren zumindest (in Tromsø) irgendwann spæt abends (vllt so gegen 23.30-00.00 Uhr?) mal wieder richtig schicke Dinger zu sehen - in der Vorhersage war nicht mal eine K=2 angesagt. Zudem kann sich das alles auch innerhalb kurzer Zeit abspielen, so dass die Polarlichter auch schnell mal verpast sind.

Und wenn sie kræftig genug sind, sieht man sie auch problemlos in der Stadt (auch wenn dort dann vielleicht die Atmosphære nicht ganz so prickelnd ist).

The very latest update regarding conditions. I was walking this weekend from Lønsdal to a hut at Kjemåvatnet. This is on Saltfjellet, at about 700 meters level. It was ok hiking conditions, just a bit of snow but not so much that it was a real problem. But one thing to remember is to have gaiters to avoid snow to get into the shoes.

When going home we noticed the snow amount in the areas keronsal is planning to go. It was almost snowfree up to 250 meter, partly snow up to 400 and mostly snow above that.

OT: Jep, wobei zur Zeit leider eher Schreibtischarbeit als 'abhængen' angesagt ist und sich meine Zeit hier fuers erste leider schon bald dem Ende neigt

Zum Thema: Aktuell sieht die Wettervorhersage ja noch nicht so prickelnd aus. Habt ihr denn Alternativplæne wenn das Wetter zum Polarlichter kucken nicht reichen sollte (zB Wandern, Angeln)? Denn auch wenn das sicher nicht die gemuetlichste Reisezeit ist, kann das ja trotzdem ein netter Urlaub werden.
