Piteälv im August/Septemer

Hallo zusammen,

hab hier im Forum schon ein paar Informationen zu Kanutouren auf dem Piteälven
sammeln können, darunter auch der tolle Bericht vom "Pirat des Nordens". Wir vor einigen Jahren schon öfters in Kanada mit dem Kanu unterwegs(Algonquin, Grass River). In den letzten Jahren dann eher in Skandinavien, u.A. auf dem Isteren nahe dem Femund. Nun möchten wir dieses Jahr mal wieder in den hohen Norden und sind uns noch nicht ganz schlüssig wohin die Reise denn gehen soll.

Ich denke, der Piteälv stellt von der Natur und Wildnis das Ultimatum von dem, was man in Skandinavien erwarten kann - korrigiert mich wenn ich falsch liege.

Wer von euch kann mir zur Mückenplage Mitte/Ende August sowie zu den zu erwartenden Wetterverhältnissen etwas sagen? Klar, man kann Pech und Glück haben mit dem Wetter, mich würde trotzdem interessieren ob ihr nochmal in die Gegend fahren würdet?

Alternativvorschläge etwas südlicher sind natürlich auch sehr willkommen.

Auf Wetterprognosen zu diesem Zeitraum kannst Du Dich nicht verlassen, dagegen auf die Mücken zu 100% Auch südl. davon

Maloja Piteälven is a long river. Which part is in your mind. I can help you with info for the part from Pieskehaure and down to Stenudden. Are you aware of the possibility to paddle from Norway and down Piteälven?

The mosquitos are not so active from the end of july, with a bit of repellant it is no problem at all. I am often picking berries late july to mid august and we never had considerable problems. (But I have only been picking berries there every year since 1964, so maybe I'm just lucky. )

Sweden regrettably does not have such good meteorological sites as we have in Norway. You may get the temperaure and rain on the norwegian side on this Senorge.no site back to 1971 But generally it is a good time for outdoor activity. Best time of the year actually.

thanks for your reply.

We`ve planned to spend about 3-4 weeks in the north. We don`t have to stay on the Pitälv the whole time, so we`re quite flexible. Between Örnvik and Sulitelma it`s supposed to be the lonliest part of the Piteälv, isn`t it? However, that`s what we`ve planned so far...

From Örnvik upstream to Sulitelma and back to the car again. We`ve our own canoe with us. There shouldn`t be too much motorboats above Tjeggelvas. Just my guess... Tell me if I`m mistaken.

Do you have any suggestions regarding maps (1:50.000/1:100:000) from this area. Apparently there are not too much maps around, as they are hard to get here in Germany...

The map you need for the area you mentioned is BD14, and you get it cheapest in Sweden here. (103 SEK = 10€) For the planning on the net use Inatur.se. Use the button <Sök i kartan> and you're on.

The route you must follow is more or less the same as marked as a snowmobile track. From Tjeggelvas into Falesjavvre you follow the track Kungsleden from the bridge up. From Falesjavvre into Kåtaselet and further into Buoktjajavvre you see a dotted line on the map. That is the track you follow.

Some persons from Bodø took the trip last year, and one of my cousins did the trip from Sulis to Stenudden about 20 years ago. I helped the guys with some things last year, and I could ask them if you have spesific questions to the trip. But as said, just follow the scooter-marked track most of the way.

One interesting tour that I have pondered upon myself, is to start in Fauske, paddle to Sjønstå and pull the canoe using wheels up to Langvatnet. Paddle to Sulitjelma and a new pulling up to Låmivatnet. The tour from Låmi to Muorki I have paddled some years ago, no problem. Note that Låmivatnet is regulated and could be much lower than shown on the maps. For planning map in Norway I use Ut.no.

I haven`t had the time to write a reply the last days, I`m sorry. Your links to the maps have been very helpful, thanks for that. What do you think, how many people will likely be there in the time between mid August and mid September? What about the fishing camp, Miekak, still alot guys out for fishing in this time?

Do you, or anybody else know about the Sjaunjaätno River? We only thought about another possibility were we can spend a few more days, If we can`t get enough...

The number of people you meet will vary from 0 to about 5 each day, but this does not include Miekak Fishing camp. They are usually full most of the time, with a slow period at the time when the river freezes (oct-des) and when the river thaws (may-june). But I could find out for you, I know one of the helipilots that flies in the fishermen.

The river you mentioned I do not know. Go to Fjallen.nu and look up the river to see if it is possible to fish in it.
