Autokauf in den USA oder Mexico?

Hallo Forum!
Da ich bald nach Mexico fliegen werde und auch einige Zeit in Nordamerika bleiben möchte würde ich mir gerne ein Auto kaufen. Ich habe aber gehört dass Mexico etwas schwierig sein soll,auch weil viele Autos gestohlen sind und auch keinen , eine Art, Fahrzeugbrief haben. Da dachte ich auch an die USA. Nur habe ich gehört dass man in den meisten Staaten auch dort wohnen muss um ein Auto zu BESITZEN! Es soll aber Staaten geben die das nicht verlangen. Weiss jemand von Euch wo ich mich da schlau machen kann?

Du musst das Auto ein Jahr in den USA angemeldet haben und auch dort gewohnt haben.

Danke rio. Aber diese info ist , so wie es aussieht, für Leute gedacht, die dort wohnen oder wohnen werden. Das gilt meiner Meinung nach nicht für Touristen. War erst drüben und wollte mir in New Mexico eines kaufen. Das ging definitiv nicht weil ich Tourist war (eingereist mit Touristenvisum) und nicht in NM wohnte! Wie gesagt, es soll Staaten geben da wäre es möglich auch als Tourist ein Auto zu besitzen (nicht zu kaufen) Ein Freund von mir schrieb folgendes:

I just spent a full hour speaking with the manager of my insurance company, explaining your situation: German national, about 35 years old, 6-month Visa, wanting to buy, own, insure, and drive a van while in the U.S. This manager spoke for a long time on the phone with her home office and with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in Alamogordo.

I am now convinced that you cannot buy a vehicle in New Mexico (and probably nowhere else in the U.S.). Anyone can SELL you his vehicle by taking your cash and then signing his title over to you. Since the seller is required to remove his license plate for use on his next vehicle, you now "own" a vehicle with no insurance, no license plate, and no official title of ownership in your name. Next you must insure the vehicle before the DMV can issue you a new title and license plate. But the DMV will not register a vehicle in your name unless you show two written proofs that you are a resident of New Mexico. (No guarantee letter from me will help.) By the way, two written proofs are also required to get a New Mexico driver's license, which you must have before my insurance company -- and any others, I imagine -- will insure you.

Since you will not be able to show two written proofs of residency, you will not be able to register the vehicle to get a license plate and a new title in your name. So, you now have a vehicle which you cannot drive legally because (1) you cannot get a title and license plate, and (2) you cannot insure it.
