AW: [GL] Greenland 2011 on inflatable catamarans

I don't know, what will be interesting to you.

How much does it was? It was 512 euro per person - food, fuel, safety equipment and transport our things from Stuttgart to Tassiilaq. Plain tickets and couple nights in hotels, helicopter and boat transfers from Kulusuk to Tassiilaq and back was about 1300 euro per person.
We sailed one month. Full track was about 500 km.
We got couple ease mountains. We hadn't any special target on this area. Simple travel for fun. Fishing, taking photos and videos. Enjoy nature.

It wasn't any kind of sport or commercial travel. Everybody used own vacation for it.

Wasn't any accidents or dangerous situations. May be except one on starting when one of our catamarans was trapped(pressed) between two ice blocks.
We didn't expected that ice can move so fast and in different directions. We learned from this case it never happened for us again.

I am not sure, that I'll prepare day to day travel log. But I can answer on your questions.

I've started this topic, because this type of travel, on inflatable catamarans, very popular in ex Soviet Union countries, but unknown in West Europe.

It would be interesting to know, how much experience the member of your team had before starting the tour. An another question could be, where it is possible to get this experience.

As a person who has never sailed, I cannot even imagine to participate once this kind of tours. But the pictures are so amazing, that it would be very nice to hear a bit more about the preparation and specific (water) aspects of your adventure. Thank you!

We had two 5 years old catamarans - Ducky-19, models from 2006.
There was 3 peoples on each catamaran .
It's our standard pattern to travel in dangerous area.
One D19 can take 6 peoples in emergency situation.

My sailing experience is about 30 years.
We had 3 peoples with sailing experiences about 3-5 years.
All members had very big experience( from 10 to 40 years) of mountaineering and coexisting in small group. It's very important.

90% of our travel we used engines. Was no wind at all, or wind in fjord was direct against our moving direction.

We very afraid of Piteraq wind.
We had one person who did meteo-analyzes for us and send SMS with weather information and Piteraq warnings via Iridium satellite phone.

We had one satellite phone(Iridium),two marine hand-held radios (one with DSC controller), one PLB - http://www.fastfindplb.com/en/.

From sailing perspective our travel was easy. But this is a difference from other kind of travels. One group can have calm weather, another group on same place, but in different time, severe weather conditions.

There no specific experience on this type of travel. It's simple mix of experience of mountaineering, surviving in cold weather, sailing or driving motor boat.
