This is not a new route, but it is a new recognition of the historic facts that led to the construction of the huts from Rana to Saltdal. The huts were built since they erected a telephone line in 1867 over the mountain. When this was done Norway was "connected" to one country. Before this line came they could not use thelephone from the northeren side to the southern side.
One thing that is told in the article is that Rana DNT has plans to rebuild the old Gila hut that burnt down around 1970.
